In this module we are exploring our wants vs. our needs. What we can live with and what we cannot live without, when living in another country.

I have personally encountered people who just cannot handle cock roaches, geckos, loud traffic, or the dreaded tossing of the toilet paper into the basura (garbage) vs. flushing it. So, the thing you must understand, is this is an alternate reality, a culture unto itself, and there are adjustments that are non-negotiable. Get real with what you want vs. what you will get!

Here is an example of a question, I often hear, “Can I get a job in Merida?” And the short answer is No. Besides the fact that you need a work Visa in Mexico, the pay is substantially lower, even drastically lower than the U.S. so, when you are making your plans and looking for work understand that remote work and retirees thrive in Merida.

Adjust your plan accordingly. Have financial savings! Do not give up!

Do I need to move today? No, Merida is not going anywhere, and it is completely worth moving here the right way, through a planned methodology with all your ducks in a row.

Can I move right now? Yes, find that remote job and make the move! There are remote jobs that allow you to work anywhere, research them, you are worth it!
